Starbucks Dropped a New Frappuccino, and It Tastes Like a Thin Mint

Starbucks just announced a new Frappuccino that’ll make you forget allabout the Unicorn Frapp. The new drink is called the Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino, and it’s a Thin Mint lover’s dream.

The layered beverage is made with scoops of extra-dark cocoa that’s blended with coffee, milk, and ice. The drink is also infused with cooling mint sugar ~crystals~ and a layer of whipped cream, then topped with even more whipped cream and an additional dusting of dark cocoa. Damn.

While it’s not hot pink and bright blue like the Unicorn Frappuccino, beverage development manager Ryan Coombes said in a press release that the drink “taps into the dark food trend popular in social media.” I see you, Starbucks, feeding our social media hungry souls (CC: goth ice cream).

Now, let’s get down to the important stuff: the taste and Instagram potential.

The Unicorn Frappuccino, while beautiful, was sweet and tart and not for everyone — so you’ll be happy know that if you like chocolate desserts, you’ll probably be into this chocolate mint Frapp.

When I gave the Midnight Mint Mocha a try, it was so damn good that I had to ask someone else to try it to confirm it wasn’t wishful thinking.

The drink tastes like someone stole the box of Thin Mints I have stashed away in my kitchen cabinet and made a Frappuccino out of it. Which, as it turns out, is a brilliant idea.

For taste, I’d give it an 8 out of 10. While it tastes like dessert, it’s very sweet — I’d recommend a tall if you’re sensitive to sugary treats.

As for how Insta-worthy it is, I give it a 6/10. It could definitely make a great Insta, as Coombes said, but you need good lighting — and to get your shot before the whipped cream melts.

You can try the Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino for yourself beginning May 2 and throughout the summer until supplies last.

In addition to the new creative drink, Starbucks is bringing back the S’mores Frappuccino. Both beverages come out in time for Frappy Hour (officially named Frappuccino Happy Hour) which starts May 5 and runs until May 14. During Frappy Hour, you can get ~any~ Frapp half-off, no matter what flavor or size.
